Welcome to the Rossallian Club

View from Chapel square of the Pavilion My first hesitant contact with the Rossallian website brings to mind my arrival at Mitre House in September 1950 when I began life in Remove d; my father had hopes that I might become an engineer, and had even mentioned the magic initials 'M.I.T. as an ultimate objective. Sadly, after one term of maths, chemistry and physics, he and Major Esnouf agreed on my free transfer to Remove b where I found myself in more familiar territory with English, history and French.

Technology has remained a challenging area over the intervening years but our home here in Cheadle has just entered the 21st.century with the installation, by our sons Bill and Charles of an HP Evo, TFT display, peripherals and associated software. The arrival of email will, I am assured, change my life and I was delighted to accept the suggestion from Jen Booth, a persuasive lady, to send this message to all Rossallians who have embraced the modern world, especially those from my distant vintage (50-55), wherever you may be?!

The contribution made by Rossallians in many walks of life has been remarkable, not least in trade and industry - the name of Sir David Brown will be forever linked with Aston Martin, but I have no doubt that there are Rossallians too who have been associated with the development of computer technology. Certainly the generosity of a recent Rossallian, Henry Fajemirokun will ensure that the students today and in the future, will have up-to-date equipment at our school.

Certainly we want to make the very best use of this new website and with that thought in mind, I am reminded of a favourite item on the menu in those 'brew' in Mitre house in the 1950s - let me assure you that SPAM will not feature on any email sent by this most illustrious website, now or in the future!
George Ayres (M 50-55) President
